[This notice is officially for Linux Australia members on the "announce"
list, but I've copied it to the main linux-aus list because I want to
encourage interested people to participate and it's not too late to join
up as a member prior to the AGM and even to vote in the current
election. If you're on the linux-aus list but not sure if you're
actually an LA member please go to http://www.linux.org.au/membership/
for more information.]

Dear Linux Australia member,

This message is to give notice that Linux Australia, Inc will hold its
Annual General Meeting of Members on Tuesday 16th January 2006 at 17:30
EDST (5:30pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time) at linux.conf.au in Sydney,
Australia.

Members unable to attend the meeting may raise issues for the committee
to respond to either publicly, by mailing the linux-aus mailing list
[0], or privately by mailing the committee directly [1].

The agenda for the meeting is as follows (also available online at [2]):

    * President's welcome
    * Confirmation of minutes of the 2006 AGM
    * Reports from 2006 office bearers
    * Presentation of financials for fiscal year ended 30 June 2006
    * Endorsement of committee activities
    * Announcement of results of the 2007 LA Committee election
    * General business, questions from the floor
    * AGM close

Elections for the new LA committee will be conducted online [3], and
comprise a nomination period that ended on the 31st of December 2006,
followed by a period for discussion amongst members and the candidates
on the linux-aus list and then with voting commencing on the 9th of
January and ending just prior to the AGM on the 16th of January.

Members with an interest in Linux Australia are encouraged to discuss
the nominations and vote! The results will be verified and announced at
the AGM, to the linux-aus list, and on the Linux Australia website [4].
The election site requires you to login, and if you no longer have your
membership username and password there are instructions on retrieving
your credentials at the website.

The minutes from the 2006 AGM will shortly be posted on the Linux
Australia Committee's wiki [5] and to the linux-aus mailing list for
members to review prior to the 2007 AGM. Voting will occur at the
meeting by show of hands. Members unable to attend in person may vote by
email to the committee no later than the 15th of January 2007.

The committee will ask that the members ratify that its activities as
detailed in the office bearers' reports were in accordance with the
organisation's aims. Those reports will also be made available to
members online as early as possible, and votes from members unable to
attend the AGM will be accepted up until a week after they are made
available for review.

On behalf of the committee I would like to thank you for your interest
in Linux Australia and involvement with the community to date, and
encourage you to pass on any questions or ideas you may have about the
organisation's future to the linux-aus list or the committee directly.

Membership in Linux Australia is currently free and does not expire. If
you would like your membership cancelled so as not to receive further
mails like this, please email secretary at linux.org.au indicating that.

Yours sincerely,

Jonathan Oxer
President, Linux Australia
