I've pondered the merits, without coming to a conclusion, about Linux
Australia adopting an 'Associate Member' system.

Membership of Linux Australia remains free, opt-in, and highly
accessible to all that want to be members, but we add another level of
membership that is based on qualification and / or certification - eg,
pass an LPI exam, get associate membership.

I've not convinced myself it's a good idea, it's just an idea.

Running LPI certifications could be an alternative revenue stream for
LA. However the down side is the low regard may ppl have for
certification, and that it creates a barrier to entry. Jumping hoops is
something you have to do to join ACS - I don't think we want that here.
