... and why not? It makes total sense. I have been considering raising the
possibility of *choosing* in advance but not publically *announcing* due to
some of the issues we've come up against this year. It might be a funny joke
to compare it to security with a pithy line, but it's not a perspective with
much attachment to reality [1].

There are quite a range of events available in a range of locations. Some a lot closer than mel8ourne in time. By that logic we shouldnt advertise lca07 before osdc and auug are done and dusted =) ?

I dont think worrying about alt events is useful.
I think that people will go to events if they are funky.
Cost and distance will be a factor.
We can use the events to promote each other.
Consider it companion planting?
