Having said that, the RHCE is a fairly respected industry

The same could be said of the MCSE -- with a similar level of
credulity with
anyone who knows what they're actually doing.
A bit harsh - RHCE is 2/3rds practical exam. Here is a machine, make
XYZ happen or here is a broken machine, fix it. That tests real
world
skills - its easier to guess your way through a multiple choice exam
than to fix a broken machine.
Considering that I[1] have been sent in at various times[2] when
the RHCEs
have failed (with a good success rate so far), I have my doubts
about the
ultimate respectability of the certification.
But, then again, I'm not exactly enamoured of certifications in
general, so
I'm probably not a good person to be singing their praises.

[1] someone who has quite limited RedHat-specific skills, and
certainly a
lot less experience with RH-based systems than I would *hope* a RedHat
certified professional would have.
[2] Make DRBD work, restore crashed system, build autoinstalling SOEs.
Nothing stunningly difficult.
