I think the economic utility test is highly subjective.

Why should I not be able to patent a computer language
method if that makes it faster to write computer
programs?

One of the first software patents in Australia was to
IBM for a method of drawing circles which was faster
on raster screens.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not for software patents.
I'm saying that this sort of subjective test leads
to a system which ends in tears.
