[Linux-aus] Warning: Mandrake 9.2 exposes flaw in (and kills) some LG CD drives

Drives will be killed even if you don't install from them. Drives
include some firmware revisions of some LG drives, but not others. Some
Dell laptops have LG drives.

If you have a dead LG drive, warranty it. A drive that can be killed by
ordinary software (only certain firmware revisions die) is by
definition broken.

Mandrake have just isolated the fault trigger to a packet-writing patch
introduced into the kernel of 9.2rc1. They'll release a fixed kernel
RSN. When they do, pending availability of mirrors, I'll be releasing a
post-9.2 ISO set with the updates built in, plus the NVidia drivers.

Mandrake have also released a number of updates for 9.2 already, none of
them for critical issues but all of them worth having. These will be
included in the updated ISOs.

Cheers; Leon
