Well no, LTSP isn't RH9 specific, it runs on many distros.
As for the original question, LTSP uses *dm to start sessions, so you
just need to make sure that kdm is the display manager. How may be
distro specific. This should affect all sessions on the server, local or
remote. It may be possible that the user can override the system setting
so it may not be possible to force existing users to change without
editing their dotrc files.
