Support Technician (Desktop an, Full Time

Job Title: Support Technician (Desktop and Server)

Reports to: Support Manager

Job summary: 

We are seeking a full-time Support technician primarily to provide desktop support services for our clients including some Linux server support. Tilda is located in Chippendale though the position also involves work at client premises throughout the Sydney metropolitan area. Start is immediate.


Job Description:

Desktop Support
_ maintaining and upgrading computers on      client networks
_ troubleshooting including hardware/software diagnosis and problem solving
_ assessment and recommendations to clients to improve their computer network
_ purchasing of software and hardware for clients
_ providing client phone/email assistance
_ end user training and orientation for new staff
_ client support including documentation and liaison with clients
_ administration work as required e.g. invoicing, quoting, purchasing
_ keeping up to date with current trends in Mac/PC software and hardware
_ projects to be determined from time to time

Server Support
_ providing linux server support assistance to the System Administrator
_ documenting and reporting to clients on server support issues
_ working towards achieving defined objectives working under the Systems Administrator

Selection Criteria:
_ demonstrated experience troubleshooting on a network (minimum of 2 years) with a variety of operating systems including Mac OS 8.x, 9.x & 10.x and Windows 95, 98, 2000 & XP.
_ customer support experience
_ thorough understanding of desktop applications
_ excellent communication skills to provide technical support by phone, email and on-site and to provide written reports to customers
_ sales experience
_ demonstrated ability to record and document activities
_ ability to work independently and in a team

Desirable Criteria
_   knowledge of Linux services including samba, netatalk, dhcpd, squid, bind, sendmail, cups, ldap, Amanda
_ knowledge of and use of Mac OS X for desktop and server
_ knowledge of or experience with community sector (non-profit) organisations
