[eo-announce] Specialist Track Selection

[Everything Open Announcements]

Our Specialist Track Selection is Complete.

A big thank you to everybody who submitted a proposal for a Specialist Track, they were good both in terms of quality (also understanding what we’re trying to achieve, as well as the fact that they are not MiniConfs) and quantity. Consequently, the team had tough choices to make, and inevitably some really good ideas lost out this time. Sorry! Some practical track mergers and adjustments were also suggested and accepted.


Specialist Tracks at Everything Open 2027

Three specialist tracks will run alongside the main program: one on each day.

Talk proposals for Specialist Tracks will be handled via the main Call for Sessions which will open very soon! Selected presenters receive the same entitlements as main program presenters, including one complimentary full conference ticket.


The specialist tracks for Everything Open 2027 are (in no particular order):

Kernel Development
Hosted by Jeremy Kerr

Covering the development of open source kernels (Linux and others): hardware enablement, project updates, roadmaps, processes, infrastructure, sustainability, and more.


Operations and Security in Practice
Hosted by Simon Lyall and Danishka Navin

Learn about the latest technologies, tools, best and emerging practices, and cybersecurity realities for Linux and open technology operations.

When thinking about submitting for this track, please keep in mind that Austalia already has a lot of security-focused conferences. Propose something that isn’t/wouldn’t be covered there.


Opening the Public Sector
Hosted by Sam Hames

See how the government and public sector are creating, sharing, using, or supporting open data and open technologies. Adversarial interoperability is also in scope for this track!


But we want more!

That’s great and it is up to the people who propose sessions to prove that in future years, Everything Open could run an extra track and/or pre-conference workshops. We believe that introducing the specialist tracks for 2027 is an opportunity towards achieving that goal for the longer term.

Being inundated with lots of really good quality proposals is a “problem” that the program selection committee would love to have again. We are positive: if the call for Specialist Tracks was anything to go by, we’re in for a great harvest!

Have a think about what you want to submit, because the Call for Sessions is happening soon. And keep the theme in mind, we want to enable the next generation and expand our great community.
