Hi all,
once again my thanks,
still have problems. Folders as below

boot dev home lost+found proc tmp vmlinuz
cdrom etc initrd mnt root usr windows
/proc shows;
debian:/# cd /proc/
debian:/proc# ls

Have added to fstab and now looks like below,
/etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump>
<pass>
/dev/hda1/ /windows vfat user,auto 0 0
/dev/hda5 / ext2 errors=remount-ro 0 1
/dev/hda6 none swap sw 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/fd0 /floppy auto user,noauto 0 0
/dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/cdrom1 /cdrom1 iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0
------------------------------------
Floppy, cdrom and cdrom1, windows, all show in Konqueror menu,
but can access none of them,cannot access even floppy drive.
I have not installed Knoppix, running from CD, has saved me so far,
as have been using the CD as operating system, internet connection etc.
/etc/group has dip:x:30:squareyes so that seems OK,
Have checked /etc/peers/ optusnet(my isp), and provider with vi, seem OK.
Tried adduser dip setup , pon initiates modem, but will not dial.
I am most interested in aptget which is why I am trying to install Deb,
will check out
Ubuntu system if that has the same/similar features, without all the
problems.
Take Care, Keep Safe.
Winton
