Yes - if SA is willing to drive this project - we can probably pitch in.
Alas with the scant numbers of puters SA has - can they really allocate
all to an overseaqs project?
Who has numbers of puters and can get free trucking to SA/or
NT.Unfortunately CAI-Vic does not have modems to give towards this
project as they are just one of the items we cant get enough of. :)
Is the Dept aware of the GNU linux approach taken by Computerbank?
Training and support considerations?
We already have puters over there, presumably still running linux -
Penni D in Vic was coordinating that project. ??
At the moment CAI-Vic is working with the ANZ bank with respect to
placement of 40 odd puters in EAst Timor (and the rest of the South
Pacific). However, these systems are already in East Timor and there has
been someone on the ground over there to help with that. These systems
are being installed and setup with Desktop Penguin. Perhaps all these
folk should be talking to?
We also have a netproject mailing list - which was for east timor
projects - perhaps we could begin to use that list again for discussion
of this. I will ask the contacts in East Timor to to also sign up to it.
There may also be some people still subbed to the netproject list that
could help with this.
It would be interesting to hear what Penni hs to say and whether she can
let us know who to contact in East Timor re the systems sent at the
start / middle of last year.
Cheers,
Kylie
