hey guys, yes its a bug - if kmail crashes, or xwindows, it loses settings. 
ive lost filters and all other settings a number of times when x has crashed 
(generally when toddler gets near keyboard - though once she kicked power out 
with that damn wiggles ball..but never mind, i digress;)  )

perhaps trialling a backup of user settings - grant would know where, i 
suspect .kde/share/apps/kmail would hold them, but why they become 
overwritten or unreadabale, i havent had a chance to play with - been a tad 
busy, you know;)

my small input for consideration, at least:)
