And what an end of year bash it will be! (especially if the elephants turn up!) Starting at 1.30pm we will kick off with a barbeque in the Flagstaff Gardens (Vic Market side - near the BBQs). We'll also have our awards ceremony to acknowledge all the folk who have put in sterling efforts over the last year! :) We think that we will finish at the park at around 4pm-5pm. However - thats not all! At 6pm we invite everyone to come to Rosslyn St (CAI-Vic) for the Computerbank Trivia Night. Computerbank Trivia Night is a fundraiser for Computerbank Victoria, with this in mind, entry per person is $10. (For the financially challenged - we will have an alternative fee structure - talk to us!). You will need to form a team of 4 or less to play. :) There will be lots of prizes - Money back for the winners + wine, knoppix CD's, Powered by Linux Badges, a SPARC or two, silly things and rarities. There will also be other activities on the night (raffle, spot games and more). Trivia, good fun, healthy nibbles, tea, coffee and water will be provided. BYO alcohol (must be 18+) and other drinks. We can take advance bookings - call us on 9600 9161 (Tuesday - Friday 1pm-5pm) to book your spot (or your teams spot) soon. An email to kylied@projectx.com.au will also work! Hope we see many faces at both events! I am using a 33.6 ROCKWELL modem, in a PIII machine having Mandrake Linux 8.2. I am able to connect the net using the modem. But once the net is connected, there is no transmission of incoming and outgoing data. I am not able to browse to any sites. Please suggest me on how to overcome the problem. Regards, Vinod. I just installed postgresql on a CB machine (hostname="mandrake"). No obvious errors. But now I get (vaguely familiar) problems: * "whoami" from my account says: "whoami: cannot find username for UID 1168" but works fine from root. * "ls -l" shows only numeric uids and gids, not names. * xterm windows disappear immediately after creation. In simpler times I might have suspected /etc/passwd or /etc/group. Fyi: * the permissions look ok: "-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 886 Dec 15 21:20 /etc/passwd" "-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 510 May 4 2002 /etc/group" * the respective entries in /etc/passwd and /etc/group look ok: "postgres:x:31:32:postgres:/var/lib/postgres:/bin/sh" "postgres:x:32:" (and the postgres uid and gid aren't conflicting with anything else.) Am I right to suspect LDAP? How to fix? Steve. ===== Steve Paynter sbpaynter@yahoo.com.au mobile 0403-922-246 __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! An email to kylied at projectx.com.au will also work! Hope we see many faces at both events! Message-ID: <20021215113334.32443.qmail@web41013.mail.yahoo.com> Hi all. How to fix? Steve. ===== Steve Paynter sbpaynter at yahoo.com.au mobile 0403-922-246 __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Why? there's a box with postgres on it already. that has tcpip listening turned on for the network see sql.cbv.prv > > But now I get (vaguely familiar) problems: > * "whoami" from my account says: > "whoami: cannot find username for UID 1168" > but works fine from root. > * "ls -l" shows only numeric uids and gids, not names. > * xterm windows disappear immediately after creation. How to fix? Something is wrong with either. a) networking on that machine b) nscd on that machine c) ldap d) installing postgres overwrote /etc/nsswitch (this would be bad.) > > Steve. > > > ===== > Steve Paynter > sbpaynter at yahoo.com.au > mobile 0403-922-246 > > __________________________________________________ > Do you Yahoo!? > Yahoo!
