Dear Community,
This is a pre-survey notification to the 'Announce' mailing list.
This email contains some preliminary information around the upcoming
Linux Australia Member Survey 2013.
Please take a few moments of your time to read through the information.
1. Are your member details correct?
https://www.linux.org.au/membership/
If not, please make them so :-) Not a member? Join today, it's free.
2. The Member Survey will be sent from surveys at acspri.org.au
Linux Australia has chosen to partner with ACSPRI - the Australian
Consortium for Social and Political Research Incorporated. ACSPRI
specialise in open source software, and make major commits to projects
such as Lime Survey. We have much in common. ACSPRI works with many
universities on survey and statistical projects and provides survey and
statistical training to member organisations. Please ensure that
surveys at acspri.org.au is not in your spam list.
3. You will receive three and possibly more reminders to do the survey
If the survey is not completed within a few days of receipt, reminder
notices will be sent. We will send up to three reminder notices, and
then depending on response rate may send more. Bounces will be tracked
so we can clean up MemberDB (refer #1 - update your member details).
4. There will be questions related to age, gender, employment status and
geographic location. All questions are optional.
Yes, we know this will be contentious, but in order to get a better feel
for our membership 'lifecyle', we need to have a better handle on where
we focus efforts. For instance, do we do more investment in high
schools, TAFEs and universities? Do we need to do reach out to retiree
groups to provide them with the benefits of open source software? Are
there regional clusters that would benefit from special attention?
Gender will be a plain text field, as recommended best practice from
relevant groups. Again, all questions are optional - if you do not wish
to respond to a question then you are not required to. There will be an
open field for you to share other feedback.
5. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
It's not long. Honest, you spend more time waiting for good coffee :-)
6. The survey will be conducted using open source software.
There will be no identifying information stored. A 'completed' flag is
stored, but it is in a separate table. You can view the Lime Survey
source to verify this.
Again, on behalf of the Council and ACSPRI we thank you in advance for
making the Linux Australian Member Survey 2013 a successful input into
the organisation's future direction.
Kind regards,
Kathy
