Media Release: 2008 linux.conf.au Host Announced
Linux Australia president, Jonathon Oxer has announced Melbourne as the
successful bidding team for linux.conf.au 2008.
In an email to the main Linux Australia mailing list Oxer praised both
Hobart and Melbourne for presenting professional bids. "This year the
decision was particularly tough, with well presented bids from Melbourne
and Hobart. Both proposals contained a lot of flair, and Hobart as a
potential destination was definitely a big draw card for many people."
"In the end though the LA Committee felt that the Melbourne team's plans
were more well developed, and with Donna Benjamin's enthusiasm and organisational
ability there is no doubt that they will pull off an absolutely awesome
conference in 2008." said Oxer.
Donna Benjamin, who lead Team Mel8ourne through the most recent bid
cycle, was thrilled at the news. "We are really excited to have been
invited to host linux.conf.au in 2008." Benjamin said.
"We're all looking forward to taking part in LCA2007 in Sydney and
getting the opportunity to learn as much as we can to help make
Mel8ourne LCA a roaring success in 2008."
Benjamin also paid tribute to the Hobart team, "Team Tasmania had us on
our toes."
In related news, the team behind linux.conf.au 2007, has released a
progress report.
"The Seven team are putting together a mighty fine conference for
linux.conf.au's return to Sydney." Said Lindsay Holmwood, team liaison.

such as Open Day for students and families, a full week conference
with community organised streams, and linux.conf.au's world renowned
lineup of fantastic speakers and eclectic topics."
"The CFP (Call For Participation) is currently open, and registration
for attendees will begin in October."
