[LC++][INFO] List Downtime -- Explanation

Hi there!


I've received an explanation from the organisation that manages the 
lists (http://www.linux.org.au/) about the recent outage.

On 2002-01-08 the machine which ran the lists had a power failure and 
was forbily, but not cleanly, power cycled. This caused corruption of 
the root filesystem and created some binaries (such as cron) to run but 
not run correctly.

This wasn't noticed until recently and linux.org.au is taking measures 
to ensure that it doesn't happen again.
