Hi Peter,
Unfortunately there are many things that can go wrong here. Off the top of
my head.
1. Is your computer really 32 bit? That would make it quite old. Most
computers can/should run the x64 instead.
2. Did you check the checksum of the image after you downloaded it?
Important.
3. Did the burn actually succeed? Try a different burning tool.
Ideally use dd on another linux machine
4. Does the USB work fine in a different computer?
5. Is the BIOS set to boot from USB?
6. Have you tried a different USB stick? Weirdly, this can really matter.
If you followed some instructions it would be good to provide them here so
we know what you did with more detail.
