[TasLUG] The Future of TasLUG Launceston

Hi friends,

I have some disappointing/awkward news.

I've been informed that the regular space we had at Enterprize in
Launceston is no longer available to us. Our primary contact there has
moved on, and my attempts to sound out the possibility of reaffirming
our relationship with Enterprize resulted in a suggestion to try
elsewhere. Obviously, there won't be a September meeting.

For the past few years, attendance in Launceston has been pretty low.
I'd been happy to keep things ticking over with the expectation that I
would at some point have the spare time and attention to dedicate to
regrowing and resolidifying the community we had here. With the
situation changing, the amount of effort involved in finding a new
venue/doing the outreach needed to make that worthwhile is more than I
can currently give, and I no longer feel like I'm the right person to
be holding the reins (I'm still happy to be supportive of any activity
that's going on).

As an organisation, TasLUG itself is a subcommittee of Linux Australia,
but the running of local activites and meetings has been organised at a
community level based on whatever time, interest, and enthusiasm people
have. With that in mind, I'd like to encourage anybody who's keen to
see continued TasLUG activity in Launceston to speak up and share
whatever hope and energy you have.

Regardless of where things go from here, I think we've had a good run
over the past 11 years. Historically, TasLUG has come and gone many
times since its first incarnation in the late 90s. If it's time for
TasLUG to sleep in Launceston once again, then I'm proud of everything
we managed to do, thankful for everybody who participated, and glad to
know we'll be survived by TasLUG in Hobart <3
