So I migrated to gitlab, and that took a few tries but seems to have gone OK https://gitlab.com/peterbillam and everything's there :-) except if I try: git clone https://gitlab.com/peterbillam/miditools it asks for Username and Password - but I want the world, not just registered gitlab users, to be able to git clone my stuff. So I went though all my projects setting Settings/Permissions Project Visibility = Public but no change, then I tried cd ~/gitlab/miditools git config --add core.sharedRepository world but then git commit says "nothing to commit": git status On branch master Your branch is up-to-date with 'origin/master'. nothing to commit, working directory clean and git add .git/config isn't allowed. I even tried reading the manual: https://help.github.com/articles/why-is-git-always-asking-for-my-password/ which didn't seem to contain anything helpful :-( It's probably Very Easy if you know the answer: how can I make git clone work for the world without Username and Password ? Like I say, sorry to bother y'all ... Surely, someone has either asked a similar question, or someone could answer yours. Cheers, Dennis Diemen Design. On 10/06/18 17:38, Peter Billam wrote: > Hi. By means of a test, with the permission denoted by 1) above i cloned your project (via git+ssh) then tried to edit your files but was unable to*. I was also unable to edit the files via the webui. So i think you're good to go :) Kind regards, Julius [*] GitLab: You are not allowed to push code to this project. fatal: Could not read from remote repository. I'm a lecturer at Worldview Centre in St Leonards and spare-time hacker. I work on the SILE typesetting system (it's cool and you should use it), various font tools, and odd bits and pieces. Goodbye: I'm leaving Australia at the beginning of next month, (sob) and am trying to get rid of stuff. I've decided not to take the heavier computer books with me. If anyone would like copies of The Unicode Standard v8.0 (two volumes) Fonts and Encodings by Yannis Haralambous they're free to anyone who can collect them. Perfect for anyone interested in multilingual text processing or who just wants a more impressive shelf of O'Reilly books. Contact me off list.
