It has also been quite busy for me this year especially to hunt down content/speakers. There is also another event that would like to use the Hobart Maker HQ on Thursday evenings but on a weekly schedule. I'd like to propose one or both of the following changes moving forward: 1. Move TasLUG Hobart meetings to the last Saturday of the month at the Hobart Makers HQ in the afternoon. This would move us in line with the Launceston meetings. 2. Have a PubLUG every second month (either 3rd Thursday as we do now, or last Saturday of the month) Thoughts? Personally my brain is a bit clearer on the weekend and the meeting not at the end of a long day/week of coding, and can spend the time to bring about more elaborate demos and talks and events. Who knows, being at the same time as the Launceston group could mean a bit more North/South collaboration as well. Cheers, Scott PS - Announcement for September Hobart Meeting will be coming soon - it will still be 3rd Thursday of the Month - 23rd September. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It would give us the option of live-feed joint-presentations... But for me, if it's a Saturday, I'd rather it was _not_ the last Saturday of the month, because everybody uses that; I already have the Alliance Francaise 1030-1200 and a film at the German Club 1400-1700 :-( For me, taslug would usually get priority, but I'd prefer any other Saturday. > Personally my brain is a bit clearer on the weekend and the > meeting not at the end of a long day/week of coding, and can > spend the time to bring about more elaborate demos and talks fair enough, though Karl mentioned > IME weekends cause trouble for parents which is also true. It's full of conflicting constraints... RISC-V is a wholly open chip design, and the LoFive is a small open implementation with design files available for KiCAD. Yes, this is THE fully open small form factor board you've been waiting for! 320MHz, 32bit, 128M-bit memory. https://groupgets.com/campaigns/353-lofive-risc-v https://github.com/mwelling/lofive Individual shipping to Tasmania is fairly insane (starting at USD$44), thus I'm prepared to add any TasLug member who wishes to get a board onto my order (within sane limits). I've not yet worked out whether I'll need you to pay me up front or not, because I have no idea how many people may be interested. If there's only one or two, great. If there's a dozen that may be a problem. Additionally, if you're outside of the greater Hobart area and don't come in to the city that often, there may be additional cost to get a board to you. However I'm pretty sure it'll be cheaper than USD$44. *****Please note you'll need an FTDI programmer for the device.***** I recommend visiting tronixlabs.com.au for one of them if you need. Our September meeting we will do a deep dive into how to use KiCAD to turn your electronic circuits into a PCB that you can order online. I've been learning KiCAD for the past couple of months and while I'm no expert, I have found the experience satisfying, especially when I turned my first couple of circuits into PCBs! Bring your tech support issues, latest distro setups, any new open source toys to demo. Where: Hobart Makers HQ - part of the Kickstart Arts centre, end of St Johns Road, Newtown Agenda: * 18:00 Turn up, set up chat and mingle * 18:30 Pizza order - check out the menu here: http://www.sophslice.com.au/ (http://www.sophslice.com.au/) * 19:15 Design PCBs to order - the basics of KiCad * 20:30 Meeting close Coming Up: October: Digital Filters with Peter Billam November: ??? The big news is that this will be our last Thursday meetup with a talk. Our Hobart meetings will be moving from the 3rd Thursday of the month, to the LAST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH. This will align us with the Launceston TasLUG group, possibly giving us the ability to live-stream each other's monthly presentations in future since we are both hosted at locations with decent Internet.
