In the OpenStack miniconf - http://2013.pycon-au.org/programme/miniconfs/openstack - we're having a hackfest in the afternoon. Thats Friday from 1430.

We have several goals for the hackfest... One is to get any attendee that doesn't already know how to, familiar with the development toolchain for OpenStack. Secondly we want to close out a few bugs, and thirdly we want to have a lot of fun :)

Everyone who has a mini-conf ticket is welcome to attend - and you can drop in and out if there are DjanoCon sessions you want to see.

Overall structure
-----------------

We're going to give a kickoff presentation for the hackfest at 1430, and then it will be freeform hacking with assistance for the afternoon.

We're thinking that pair programming between attendees is a great way to help knowledge sharing, and Michael Still has graciously agreed to find some excellent low hanging bugs that will serve as a graceful introduction to OpenStack. Equally though, if you have a personal patch or feature you're interested in, or have even been hacking on for a while, we'll be delighted to collaborate with you on moving that forward!

Tools needed
------------

You need a laptop, or a buddy with a laptop (buddies can be found at the hackfest :)).

You'll need a working development environment. If you have hacked on OpenStack before, bring that. If not, you can download a VM image that contains a working devstack here:

(Note - the image is 1GB in size, I suggest downloading it before the conference to avoid straining the WiFi).

I have a copy of the image on a USB key for anyone that gets this email too late.

Some basic Python knowledge is needed :)
