Hi All,
Better late than never, I hope!
Herewith the log (edited for some brevity) of the meeting in #linux-aus-lugs
held 27 April.
Thanks to Daniel for his IRC log, my program didn't, even though I thought
I'd turned it on.
**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Apr 27 19:07:41 2010
19:07:41 * Now talking on #linux-aus-lugs
19:07:41 * Topic for #linux-aus-lugs is: Meet Last Tuesday of the month -
WA 18:00 - SA 19:30 - East Coast 20:00 (GMT 10:00am) Next meet Mar 30
<snip>
19:38:38 <dns53> so what happened in last months meeting?
<snip>
19:43:09 <PaulWay> I think we mainly talked about planning for SFD,
getting CQLUG set up with a ... what was it?
19:43:29 <latent> there was something asking about lca, that's why i'm
here
19:43:34 <donak> Drupal instance on the Linux Aus website
19:43:44 <PaulWay> That's right.
<snip>
19:43:58 <noorbeast1> I was asking about lca
19:44:03 <PaulWay> latent: One thing just being talked about on the
#linux-aus channel is LCA videos.
19:44:04 <donak> latent: we have volunteers, and are planning a road trip
19:44:38 <latent> PaulWay: yeah, i'm not doing videos, don't are about it
:)
19:44:46 <noorbeast1> I was interested in how lugs could help
promote/support lca
19:44:48 <PaulWay> latent: never mind :-)
19:45:12 <noorbeast1> and a status update on lca planning
19:45:22 <PaulWay> noorbeast1: If there's someone from your area giving a
talk at LCA, have them give it to your LUG beforehand (or afterward).
19:45:30 <latent> well the status update is probably easiest
19:45:47 <dns53> is the drupal hosting only available for lugs or for any
group?
19:46:09 <latent> we've got the main venue booked, and are working (this
week) on the events venues and main accomodation venues
19:46:19 <latent> we still don't have a freaking website
19:46:21 <PaulWay> dns53: LUGs, AFAIK.
19:46:32 <latent> we still haven't picked a logo/graphics theme
19:46:34 <PaulWay> latent: Zookeepr?
19:46:41 <donak> but ask, don't assume your group would not get support
19:46:46 <PaulWay> Presumably you're going to use that.
19:46:55 <latent> PaulWay: yeah, i think so
19:47:01 <donak> what sort of group dns53?
19:47:19 <latent> PaulWay: some drama on the la side apparently, the vm
they gave us is ro, apparently
19:47:23 <noorbeast1> is the website a lack of people or hosting/admin
19:47:39 <PaulWay> latent: ah.
19:47:45 <dns53> donak a hacker space, so not specific to linux but linux
related
19:47:57 * PaulWay wonders how to wake cafuego. Coffee, perhaps?
19:48:03 <donak> perhaps we should start with intros
19:48:24 <noorbeast1> noorbeast=gary cqlug
19:48:25 <donak> < Don Knowles, Central Qld Linux User Group
19:48:37 <PaulWay> Paul Wayper, Canberra LUG.
19:48:59 <bigsteve> Steve Lindsay, Newcastle Lug (LOGIN)
19:49:02 <latent> clinton roy, humbug secretary, lca organiser
19:49:18 * dns53 is daniel sobey from sa: linuxsa, ubuntu-au, adelaide
hacker space
19:49:56 <PaulWay> latent: evil_steve is on #linux-aus, maybe ask him?
<snip>
19:52:14 <jhesketh> latent: it's probably more a lack of time. This is
the first LUG drupal site LA is setting up so there is no process in place
yet and I know a few key people have been very busy/away recently and LA
have been doing work on the servers (not sure what work though)
19:52:25 <PaulWay> All of which means that you've just saved yourself
from angering him - I've done it in your stead :-)
19:52:26 <jhesketh> Joshua Hesketh - Tasmania
19:52:38 <PaulWay> How goes, jhesketh?
19:52:48 <PaulWay> How's that NBN coming along? ;-)
19:53:00 <latent> jhesketh: i don't know any details, had no idea we were
doing drupal
19:53:19 <jhesketh> PaulWay: Well thanks... Busy as usual ;). Yourself?
19:53:22 <latent> jhesketh: i've heard little from our sysadmins and
little from la, all i know is that we don't have a website :)
19:53:50 <jhesketh> PaulWay: The NBN is not on my street... that's the
bottom line I'm discussing with the politicians ;)
19:54:03 <PaulWay> jhesketh: the same.
19:54:25 <PaulWay> I'm trying to finish the business cards off for
www.canberramotorbikeparking.net
19:54:27 <jhesketh> latent: In general I believe (not 100% sure) that the
plan is to create Drupal sites for LUGs who ask nicely
19:54:42 <PaulWay> Some day I'll convert it from static HTML to Django.
19:54:45 <latent> jhesketh: the conf is not a lug, and is not using
drupal, afaik
19:54:48 <jhesketh> but as I said, a mixture of people being
busy/unavailable and infrastructure work coupled with the first time it's
been done makes it a slow process
19:54:51 <PaulWay> Trying to get more speakers for CLUG.
19:55:24 <jhesketh> latent: Sorry, I thought you were talking about the
lug website for CQLUG
19:55:42 <donak> latent is from Humbug
19:55:55 <jhesketh> in that case, disregard my comments as I don't know
what I'm talking about ;)
19:56:13 <donak> dns53 was asking about nonLUGS getting a website
19:56:17 <noorbeast1> I will help
19:56:23 <jhesketh> PaulWay: Is this for SFD?
19:56:24 <latent> any other lca status question?
19:56:26 <noorbeast1> doing myth next meet
19:56:38 <latent> this feels more like a gabfest than a meeting
19:56:39 <noorbeast1> How can we help promote it
19:56:42 <PaulWay> jhesketh: that's coming.
19:56:55 <PaulWay> latent: we haven't had an organised agenda in a couple
of months.
19:56:58 <bigsteve> is there an agenda?
19:56:59 <donak> latent, can you use some volunteers from CQ?
19:57:27 <donak> there is bigsteve, but discussion has blown it out of
the water :-)
19:57:33 <PaulWay> Not enough participation from LUGs (IMNSHO).
19:57:42 <latent> PaulWay: there was an agenda on the last mail
19:57:49 <PaulWay> Ah.
19:57:59 <donak> 1st item was the Drupal instance being setup for LUGs
<snip>
19:59:09 <donak> the drupal instance is a tough gig, when people can
spare the time, they'll work on it
19:59:12 <PaulWay> Well, maybe.
19:59:14 <latent> donak: we've probably got the core group one ok,
volunteers during the week would be good?
19:59:47 <latent> donak: we're hopefully going to have open street maps
australia at openday
19:59:54 <donak> we're planning a trip to attend, probably at least 5 or
6
20:00:14 <latent> donak: one thing i'd like to have is everyoe coming
keep a gps log of their trip so we can show all the traces on one map
20:00:33 <latent> donak: if a few of your guys could determine how
feasible that is, that'd be great
20:00:43 <PaulWay> latent: neat idea!
20:01:44 <evil_steve> so apparently there are still problems with the LCA
vm?
20:01:50 <latent> PaulWay: i haven't swung it past the open maps guy yet
20:02:09 <latent> evil_steve: apparently? not a lot of comms with our
sysadmin team i'm afraid
20:02:26 <latent> evil_steve: as of yesterday i think our vm was still
read only?
20:02:37 <evil_steve> latent: I'd hope not, it was rebuilt on Friday
20:02:59 <latent> have you heard from james?
20:03:07 <evil_steve> TheD is in the admin channel, I'll find out what
the issue still is
20:03:15 <latent> ta
20:03:23 <latent> i'm trying not to get involved :)
20:03:37 <evil_steve> but as I understood it on yesterday's admin
teleconf, it was all fixed and ready to go
20:03:52 <latent> was that morning or afternoon? :)
20:03:58 <evil_steve> latent: same here. Never works tho
20:04:03 <evil_steve> afternoon
20:04:32 <evil_steve> but no, nothing from TheD
20:04:43 <evil_steve> er. try that again
20:04:46 <latent> ok, it might have been fixed up during our all hands
meeting :)
20:04:49 <evil_steve> nothing from James, I've pinged TheD
20:06:27 <latent> thanks. having james remote from us limits comms a bit
20:08:19 <evil_steve> yup
20:08:30 <evil_steve> think what it was like for me and 010 ;)
20:08:54 <latent> we try to skype him in for meetings, but it's pretty
crappy
20:08:56 <evil_steve> about the time I was getting ready to get stuff
done, puck was heading to bed, or already asleep
20:09:05 <PaulWay> You and Ian and the others did a great job with comms
at LCA Steve.
20:10:33 <latent> donak: once we've got the website up, i'l be putting up
some a4 posters that people can put up at unis and such to advertise the
conf
20:14:03 <smakked_work> Can someone tell me if the Goldcoast LUG is still
a LUG?
20:14:23 <donak> alright, topic 3 : Software Freedom Day ... anyone have
any different plans?
20:14:44 <PaulWay> smakked_work: Steve Dalton keeps on trying to run it.
20:14:46 <donak> you'd be the one to know, wouldn't you smakked_work?
20:15:16 <smakked_work> I am unsure donak
20:15:22 <smakked_work> getting mixed answers
20:16:38 <smakked_work> was hoping a Goldcoaster would be here
20:17:20 <dns53> adelaide is planning an event, there probably will be
one in victor harbor or goolwa, there might also be one in mt Gambier
20:18:19 <donak> that's SFD Daniel?
20:19:54 <dns53> yes
20:20:46 <PaulWay> We're doing basically what we've done every year - it
seems to work.
<snip>
20:25:11 <latent> i'm trying something a little different up in brisbane
- humbug meta
20:25:22 <latent> a central meeting spot during the week
20:27:04 <latent> it's a bit hard to organise content along with lca :/
<snip>
20:35:51 <donak> OK, meeting closed : nite all
<snip>
20:38:46 <donak> I'll have to compare Logs with someone else, to be sure
I got it all
