Mike from ASLUG here.

I've built a few websites in the past using Drupal.
What sort of concepts are you after (eg. end usage, programming)?
Unfortunately I can't make it down to Adelaide any time soon but I'm happy to
help in any way I can.

The best thing would be to get an instance up and running and then play with it.
It's all pretty basic web interface stuff, best learnt by doing.
The Drupal forums are pretty good and there are heaps of online resources and
books around.
Google can probably answer almost any question.
