<div dir="ltr">Hi Jackson,<div><br></div><div>Sounds interesting. My entry into computing was through Bulletin Board Services, a p2p system based on accoustic modems making direct-to-server phone calls. People would run their own nodes at home, and ISPs were not a thing yet. It took me a long time to find linux, but my dad was into computing and so we had equipment at home to connect with.</div>
<div><br></div><div>I guess these days access to a computing community is much easier than it used to be. </div><div><br></div><div>What's more interesting to you -- applications programming, or just building systems that do interesting things? </div>

<div>When i got to year 7, i was put into the selective class at my school, which meant we had to do an applied research project on a topic of our choice, so i made a computer for $600 (all my money at the point). My dad hates computers, so he said i couldn't get money help from my family, but he did know about the computer recycler i mentioned earlier, so i went there. I volunteered for 2 years until new volunteering laws prevented anyone from being insured while someone under 18 was there.</div>
