Having a strong Linux brand is good for industry represention and provides a commercial advantage to Linux Proffesionals.

At the same time the present activities and role of the Linux Australia organisation are being impeded by retaining a name that no longer accurately reflects its membership.

The benifits of a common body representing and providing support to all open tecnology groups and events are significant.

It should also be recognised that the people involved in Linux Australia do a fantastic job and it would be difficult, if not impossible, to replecate them in additional bodies.

The brand Linux Australia has become confused and non obvious to those outside the open community.

By creating a new brand which more accurately explains the current organisations role in represent and supporting open communities and events, and using the Linux Australia brand for associating lugs, performing linux specific advocacy and running linux events the community identity would be strengthened.
