We are hoping that you are spending this weekend writing up some amazing proposals to submit to EO2025's Call for Sessions. We already have some great submissions but we need more! we want to hear from you! There is only ONE WEEK LEFT so get onto it! Are you a developer, maintainer, user, contributor, distributor of anything related to the world of Open Methodologies and Technologies? We want to hear from you! Everything Open is a conference that welcomes all ranges of talks from the seasoned speakers to new people. We are a very welcoming space for speakers and we want you to help us make EO the best conference it could be. If you are unsure as to what to write or how to write it, Sae Ra will be running 2 sessions on putting together a submission with some insights as to what the Session Selection Committee is looking for. Details are below: Session 1: Thursday 19 September 2024 - 8pm-9pm AEST Session 2: Friday 20 September 2024 - 1pm-2pm AEST If you are interested in attending please email speakers at everythingopen.au with the session you would like to join and we will send through a calendar invite for that session. The sessions will talk you through putting together a proposal, what is expected, what the reviewers are looking for, and then we will spend some time putting together the talk. More details about the Call for Sessions is below. History of the Internet in Australia The internet is a technology that has had an immense impact on the way Australians live their lives. This project, Australians Online: A Cultural History of the Internet in Australia, 1989 ? 2010, aims to uncover how Australians made sense of the internet and eventually adopted it into their everyday routines. As part of Rebecca Houlihan?s PhD thesis, this project will analyse how the internet impacted a variety of segments of Australian society including the economy, mainstream media, politics, and parent-child relationships, among other topics. Currently, as part of this project, I am looking for people to interview about their experiences with the internet in Australia during the period from 1989 to 2010. -- Simon Lyall | Very Busy | Web: http://www.simonlyall.com/ "To stay awake all night adds a day to your life" - Stilgar From contact at everythingopen.au Thu Sep 19 10:14:23 2024 From: contact at everythingopen.au (Everything Open) Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2024 10:14:23 +1000 Subject: [Linux-aus] Everything Open 2025 Call for Sessions is now open In-Reply-To: <90795cd70faf89ef1853d0c7889242d8@everythingopen.au> References: <41cc1f404d9c8f28d2506ce94c0952e5@everythingopen.au> <90795cd70faf89ef1853d0c7889242d8@everythingopen.au> Message-ID: Hello everyone, Just a quick reminder that the writing sessions are on today and tomorrow, if you wish to attend please email speakers at everythingopen.au and we will send through a meeting link and calendar invite. The sad news is that Peter Billam passed away last week. He had been fighting ill health at Royal Hobart Hospital for the last two months when on Wednesday his condition deteriorated suddenly. He died peacefully in the company of a friend on Thursday. Peter was a great enthusiast of the FLOSS community, particularly at the intersections of FLOSS and his other passion, music. A key insight into Peter's heart, passions and outlook on life are that his website is in English _and_ Esperanto. Peter leaves behind one of the finest examples of a hand-made personal website[1], which he loved working on. I will not attempt to summarise his many and varied projects - I invite you to have a browse. [1] http://peterbillam.fastmail.com.user.fm/ Peter will be heavily missed by everyone that knew him. -- Craige McWhirter Signal: +61 4685 91819 Matrix: @craige:mcwhirter.io Mastodon: @craige at mcwhirter.io -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I have already noticed that a couple of you have already submitted sessions and that's fantastic! We have extended by 1 week to next tuesday 1st October. For those who would like someone to read through their submission please do feel free to reach out to me and I'm happy to help give some pointers. It would mean you could post these updates there instead of to the Linux Australia lists, so only people interested in them receive them. Currently I'm getting two copies of every message (because they are sent to both the linux-aus list and the announce list) but there's no way I can unsubscribe from them without removing myself from the Linux lists entirely. We've had this issue in the past with some other conferences too, where the organisers are understandably excited about sharing what's happening, but forget that not everyone shares the same enthusiasm for such frequent updates on the minutiae of an upcoming conference! So I apologise for coming across as negative, but it would be much appreciated if you could have a dedicated Everything Open list that people can choose to subscribe to if they would like the regular updates, and then posts to the Linux lists could be limited to just the occasional major events (like announcing the conference and existence of the new list, and perhaps another reminder before ticket sales close), so those who are less interested don't get peppered with quite so many messages. Sorry for being today's grump but hopefully you understand :) Cheers, Adam. In my haste I replied all rather than removing certain lists and once I had realised (both times) there was a mild panic and hoped that everyone would be forgiving for my haste :) Luckily we had enough interest from my stuff up, the messaging worked but I can completely understand. We do have a dedicated list for Everything Open but unfortunately not everyone has subscribed there either so I hope you bear with us as we build the list.
