[Linux-aus] Grant application: Setting up and operating a ‘Mastodon’ node for the Australian online community

I think that the amount of money is reasonable and this could provide a good 
benefit to the community.

But I would like to know what the benefits are over GNU Social?  Is it easier 
to install and manage?  Last time I checked GNU Social was difficult to install, 
to achieve the goals of replacing Twitter and giving users control I think 
that being at least as easy to install as Wordpress would be a requirement.

Would it be better to have this run on a VM on one of the LA servers?
