I am sure a few people may have already noticed in the news:

"The long battle to save the Tasmanian devil from its deadly facial cancer
is set to pass a vital milestone, with the first release into the wild of
immunised animals."

We can recall that around $40,000 was directly raised at Linux Conference
2009 for research into the Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease. One can
imagine that the advertising of this activities and further flow-on
donations would have also contributed.

Like a number of things in life, an initial investment can have great
results quite a few years later. I like to think that the Tasmanian Devil
donations from 2009 contributed to the successful development of the
vaccine and the release of immunised Devils in wild. I like to think that
we can all say "Yes, we helped save this species from extinction".
