My MUA (Kmail) doesn't work that way.
However I think that having the default be to reply to the author is the ideal
thing for mailing lists. That means that any message which isn't well
considered won't go to the list, this is a really good thing.

Yes, I advocated just that quite a while ago. I gave the example of SPI and
Debian for how it could work, with the new "Linux Australia" as a Linux
advocacy organisation which doesn't deal with much money being like Debian and
SPI being like the current LA under a different name.
