G'day all.

You may be aware from recent posts to this mailing list, from news
reports and recent LA Council minutes that there is a potential issue
concerning the 'Secure Boot' option to be available on upcoming
computer motherboards. The possibility exists that machines may be
released with a secure boot implementation that restricts the machine
to only be capable of running the Windows 8 operating system. This
would obviously be of concern to those who wish to use other operating
systems, which of course concerns us as Linux users.

The issues surrounding UEFI and secure boot are complex and have both
legal and technical facets to them. The LA Council is consulting with experts
in these areas and with hardware manufacturers in order to determine
what course of action we should take.

If you as a community member have further information on these issues,
or can provide links to further information, please share your
knowledge via this mailing list.

Thanks,

LA Council
