Howdy,
The more astute of you may have noticed from the meeting minutes that the
Council is bringing the Rusty Wrench Award out of retirement. Someone has even
already updated the Wikipedia page! [1]
The Rusty Wrench Award was first awarded in 2005 and seeks to recognise
outstanding service to the free software and open source communities in
Australia. It is named for Rusty Russell, one of Australia's most prominent
contributors and community members who started linux.conf.au (before it was
called linux.conf.au :) and has been a source of inspiration and amusement for
a number of years.
Previous winners of the Rusty Wrench Award have been:
2007 - Kim Weatherall
2006 - Pia Waugh
2005 - Rusty Russell
Traditionally, the award has been presented to a person of the previous winners
choice, in liaison with the Linux Australia Council.
This year the Council has decided to open up the process a bit. We are taking
nominations for the award at
http://linux.org.au/vote/rusty-wrench-nomination-form
The Linux Australia council will then create a short-list, from which previous
Rusty Wrench recipients will then choose the new recipient.
If you know someone who you think should receive the Rusty Wrench at
linux.conf.au 2012 in Ballarat, please fill out this form and let us know!
Nominations will close on the 31st December 2011.
