[Linux-aus] Request for Sponsorship for Barcamp Gold Coast on 2nd April

I think you have to go to a few to really get it - every time I do one
I always think the day before "why the hell am I doing this?" - then
on the day I realise why.... it's quite magical to see the people who
have come along for the first time having no idea what to expect...
they are amazed that the whole concept works so fluidly. It's
certainly not sold in any way as an open source event, but I think the
whole self organising, grassroots part of it is the very soul of FLOSS

Anyway - I'd highly recommend if you don't have one happening in your
city - step forward and do them. If you don't mind not having food
(you can always take a collection or just go to the pub at lunch or
something) and you can get a free venue (unis & libraries are good)
they is almost no outlay to doing them.... a bit of hard yakka at
first to get things together, but about 0.1% of doing an LCA :)

A great way to bring your community together, I especially like doing
the Gold Coast ones, the community here (not just IT in fact) is very
fragmented and disconnected and there's very little like this that
goes on here - people really appreciate the opportunity to network and
learn new stuff.
