I've only been to a few, but all I've been to have had a considerable
chunk of open source stuff talked about.
I've spoken about Inkscape - and had people who never used it before
give it a go too... so I see that as promoting the use of open source
software.
But the whole point of a barcamp is that there's no set program, there's
no mandating of what will and won't be talked about.
The point is to participate, and encourage people to stand up, have a go
share some knowledge and build some skills.
That bit about participating and sharing knowledge - in my view - is
exactly what makes open source matter.
Mikal - to be honest, I'm somewhat surprised you don't grok that.
