G'Day Everyone,

I'm a Melbourne-based WordPress developer and I wanted to inquire about having the Linux Association sponsor the WordCamp we are planning in Melbourne for early next year. WordCamp is a conference set around all aspects of the popular WordPress content management system. The following quote explains from WordCamp.orgexplains what a "WordCamp" is.

"WordCamp is a conference that focuses on everything WordPress. WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other. WordCamps are open to WordPress.com and WordPress.orgusers alike."

The first WordCamp in Australia was held in Melbourne on the 17th of November 2007. WordCamp "Australia" in Sydney was held in 2008 on November 29th and 30th. I am not sure of the attendees at the first WordCamp Melbourne, but WordCamp Australia, which I played an organisational role in, accounted for around 200 people with a large international presence.

We have been planning this WordCamp for the past several months and are planning for an attendance of around 250 people. We have looked into potential venues, including RMIT and the State Library of Victoria.

The potential dates we have set are the 26th and 27th of February, 2010. The event will be held in tandem with WordCamp Wellington held the weekend before. The conference will consist of a formal day of planned sessions, while the second day will be more along the lines of an unconference-like event.

The involved parties who will become members of the subcomittee are as follows: James Collins, Brent Shepherd, Sarah Stokely, and Myself.

Regards,
Anthony
