I think there is probably ongoing interest in Unix foo which could
well gain AUUG new life if the format had a lower threshhold. As
others have suggested OSIA is also open source and has the more
business and government take on technology community wrangling.

LinuxSA is an unincorporated LUG and a fine one. 10 years this year.

Informal format does not have to mean EOL.

Is being an unincorporated AUUG which has access to hosting for the
mail lists and website a useful option.
(I think this has been offered already?)

Partnership in events is something which frequently happens for expos,
software freedom day, open days, mini confs.
There is also the OSDC event which is an open source developer event.

Incorporation does gove a form and process but it does mean that
events attract PLI from the organisation. This then means
fundraising/fees to raise the PLI. Informal groups which get together
can often get covered by the PLI of the council or venue which they
hold the event through.

We do not have to make all things one thing to be able to support
diverse interests imho.

I think find a calendar of events you want to hook in with and
services you would like to run and see where those things fit in the
communities around and keep the AUUG name going just as a different
kind of creature.

The diversity of interest is useful. Calzone nights are great fun =)
