Good a place as any to jump in: for all the sorts of reasons that are
being raised in this thread, after

        Linux Bangalore/2004

they changed their name to

        foss.in/2005

It's still a "Linux conference" heart and soul with exactly the sort of
breadth that LCA has. Is it more inclusive? I suppose. Did the name
change take? Anyone with a marketing background would note here that
changing your brand name always has a huge cost. I think their new name
*will* take over time, and the message of inclusiveness doesn't hurt
(though they have exactly the same sorts of arguments about who to
include that we do).

[Their domain name works, and that was inspired by linux.conf.au. In
fact, they considered (and own) linux.conf.in but they didn't want to
step on our toes. Very considerate of them, really. I gather too there's
a crowd with linux.conf.mx but the movement died when OLS refused to
change its brand to linux.conf.ca]

Personally, I've always accepted the de-facto state in the market that
"Linux" is a code word that means "the software libré and open source
software phenomenon" so, if it were me, I'd leave the conference brand
name alone for the simple fact that it has such great recognition
amongst the community whose enthusiasm we have, to this date, worked to
promote.

As for

        opensource.org.au

that really is a no-brainer at this point. And I really like

        Open Source Community Australia

complementing

        Open Source Industry Australia

so good show to whoever originally had that idea.
