I urge everyone on this list to phone, or fax local MP and senators on
this issue - it's not going to get much (if any) coverage in the press -
and most of the coverage I've seen is positive about the impending
changes - and really, this is bad law. Very Bad Law.

If you are in QLD, SA, NSW or the NT - you have senators sitting on the
committee and the hearings are today. They're listed on the EFF page
above.

If not - contact senators in your own state anyway, and your local
member of parliament. You can find out who these people are here:

Do One of Three Things.
  1. Send an email
  2. Make a phone call (better)
  3. Send a fax or a letter in an envelope! (best)
     (perhaps even consider express post!!)

Ask that the bill be delayed.

Demand that only the provisions directly required by the AUSFTA on DRM
should even be considered at this time.
Request more time for Australian Legal Fraternity to examine the bill.
It should be redrafted, so that the impact on education and research
does not strategically disadvantage Australia's future, so that
Australia's innovation industries are not forced off shore, and so that
people engaged in non-commercial sharing are not branded criminals.

Brendan Scott, from Open Source Law, and a director of OSIA is
presenting at today's hearings.
 
Rusty Russell, Brendan Scott, Kim Weatherall (and yours truly) all made
