By now many of you will have already heard the news, but just in case
you haven't, it's official! Below is a copy of the statement I made to
Linux Australia ctte acknowledging the decision to hold LCA in Melb in '08.
cheers
Donna
We are really excited to have been invited to host linux.conf.au in
2008. Our bid took the long road, bowing out in deference to Dunedin for
2006 which turned out to be a fabulous conference, and I doubt any who
went would disagree. Last year Sydney simply trumped our bid, and their
experience in having run LCA before was an unbeatable factor. We're all
looking forward to taking part in LCA2007 in Sydney and getting the
opportunity to learn as much as we can to help make Mel8ourne LCA a
roaring success in 2008.
We have to acknowledge our competitors in this race. Team Tasmania had
us on our toes. We were quietly confident of doing well, having had 3
years to prepare our bid, and sketch out our vision. But Tasmania's
polished logo design and bid document had us worried. We have no doubt
that Hobart will be a magnificent place for this conference, and I
encourage the team behind the Tassie bid to do as we did. Maintain
momentum and bid again for 2009. In the meantime we publicly invite and
welcome their involvement in Mel8ourne's team of Flying Monkeys.
