Of interest to the Linux and FOSS community:

For those of you who don't know, NTT DoCoMo is Japans largest Telco.
They introduced iMode to Japan which is basically the worlds most
successful "Mobile Internet" (although it was never-ever called that).
iMode has now been deployed across the world including Europe and now
Australia with Telstra.
NTT's model is to work very closely with handset manufacturers and
online service providers to provide a compelling experience for their
customers.
Now, with their investment into Linux they are confirming that Linux
has taken prime position in the mobile phone space. They chose Linux
in preference to very stong competition from Symbian (parly owned by
Nokia and SonyEricsson) and Windows.
Linux phones are currently being designed, developed and deployed by
Panasonic, NEC, Motorola and Sharp.
This is great news for the Linux and FOSS communities.
