The first, is that publishing the email addresses of subscribers, is an invasion of the privacy of the subscribers to the list. I, for one, was not aware that anyone other than the list administrators, would have access to a list of subscribers to the list. The publishing of the first web page URL above, and the information on the first web page of the URL above, allowing any person to subscribe to the list and then download a list of subscribers, is not what I regard as good faith administration. Apart from the privacy violation, another issue, is one that results from that privacy violation; by allowing the process to occurr, where anyone other than the list administrators has access to the list of subscribers to the list, the process is a clear approval of spamming, which is one of the results of publishing such information. Whilst the open source movement, and Linux, are supposed to involve a certain rebel elemnt, the violation of list subscribers' privacy, and, the clear approval of spamming, resulting from that policy, apart from the spamming that occurs via the list, are not what I regard as consistent with the respect for people, that I personally would have attributed to the open source movement, which (supposedly), was (emphasised, was, until this) supposed to be about protecting the interests of the little people. Thus, I am thoroughly disheartened with this revelation of impropriety by the list. -- Bret Busby Armadale West Australia .............. PostgreSQL is free, comes with Linux, has a free online book, and, is more ANSI-SQL-92 compliant. Apart from that, any SQL book of value should do. There is a Teach Yourself SQL in 21 days book, and, I believe, a Teach Yourself SQL in 24 hours book. They should do the job. It depends on what you want to do, and, how far you want to go. There are probably free online tutorials. Have you tried doing a google search on "SQL tutorial", or, "mysql tutorial"? On a saturday (perhaps the 28th of Dec although reply and discuss) we have a bit of a get together during the day where we do general linuxy geeky type things, sit around and chew over issues. There is a possibility I can get my place set up with a couple of tables for some PC's etc and we have a nice patio for sitting outside if the geekiness call for it. After that, we head into town say about 7pm and go to some kind of resteraunt, possibly a curry or thai or whatever people can handle (I know what you're gonna shout out, Mark!). But, how many people are going away for the holidays? What dates would suit? How about as early as this weekend coming (14/15)?. Reply and let us all know.
