Message-ID: The linux.conf.au 2019 team are excited to announce Rory Aronson as our first keynote speaker! Rory is the CEO of FarmBot Inc, a California benefit corporation that produces 100% open-source CNC farming machines designed for small-scale automated precision food production. Rory started the project from his sunny porch in San Luis Obispo with the publishing of the FarmBot whitepaper in September of 2013. From there, he formed a small team consisting of hardware and software engineers who brought the project to market in July of 2016 with the debut of FarmBot Genesis. After raising over $1,000,000 in pre-order sales in 2016, the team shipped their first units to customers in early 2017. Today, over 900 FarmBot kits have been delivered to customers all around the world, and the FarmBot community continues to grow. Come and hear Rory speak at linux.conf.au 2019! -- Steven Sykes Chair, LCA 2019 Twitter: @linuxconfau Web: linux.conf.au/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: Hello! Linux.conf.au wouldn?t be the awesome conference it is if it weren?t for volunteers! For 2019 we?re calling on people to come forward and lend a hand again. If you?ve done it all before and just want to get on with signing up, all the details can be found at https://linux.conf.au/attend/volunteer. If you?re new to it all and want to help out, keep reading! We?re all volunteers ourselves and we need more ? we can?t run the conference by ourselves, particularly during the week of the conference itself. We need help with: ??? ? Checking attendees in when they arrive ??? ? Operating AV equipment such as audio gear and cameras ??? ? Directing people around our venue ??? ? Ensuring talks and tutorials run to schedule ??? ? Packing in and packing out the conference Anyone who has volunteered before will tell you it?s a very busy time, but also very worthwhile. It?s satisfying to know that you?ve helped everyone at the conference to get the most out of it. It?s very rewarding in knowing that you?ve made a positive difference to someone?s day. You don?t just get to meet the delegates and speakers, you also get to know many of them while helping them out. You are presented with a unique opportunity to get the behind the scenes and close to the action. You?ll get to forge new relationships with amazing, interesting and wonderful people (just like you), whom you might not have otherwise had the good fortune to meet in any other way. In return for your help we?ll provide you with: ??? ? Food ? morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea ??? ? A clean T shirt everyday ??? ? If you want one, a letter of reference at the end of the week Depending on the number of volunteers we get and workload (many hands make light work), we?ll do our best to try and schedule everything so that you can attend talks that interest you. For more information, please check out https://linux.conf.au/attend/volunteer ? we have full details of what we need from our volunteers. We review and approve applications regularly. Message-ID: 10 November 2019 The linux.conf.au 2019 team are pleased to announce Dana Lewis as our next keynote speaker! After building her own DIY "artificial pancreas", Dana Lewis (https://diyps.org/about/dana-lewis/) helped found the open source artificial pancreas movement (known as "OpenAPS"), making safe and effective artificial pancreas technology available (sooner) for people with diabetes around the world. She is also a Principal Investigator for a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded grant project to work to scale patient-led innovation and scientific discovery in more patient communities. @danamlewis https://openaps.org/ -- Steven Sykes Chair, LCA 2019 Twitter: @linuxconfau Web: linux.conf.au/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: 24 November 2018 The linux.conf.au 2019 team are honoured to announce Rusty Russell as a keynote speaker! Rusty is a recovering Linux kernel maintainer, and long-time Free Software developer. He helped create the modern Linux kernel module subsystem, iptables, netfilter, lguest, virtio, CCAN, ccontrol, linux.conf.au and many other forgotten projects. After almost 20 years of kernel development, he switched to working on bitcoin 4 years ago: in particular, developing specifications and an implementation of the lightning network. He lives in Adelaide with his three great children, and very understanding wife. As Rusty created linux.conf.au, it seems fitting to bring him back for the conference's 20th anniversary! @rusty_twit https://rusty.ozlabs.org/ -- Steven Sykes Chair, LCA 2019 Twitter: @linuxconfau Web: linux.conf.au/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you're planning on bringing your child(ren) to LCA and require child care, please ensure you: - List all children and their ages in your attendee profile; and - Fill out our childcare form (https://goo.gl/forms/ZYnGgGEzNtBPmTOM2) before 31 December 2018. Child Minding service We have a minding service for children 5 years and younger. The child minding facility will be located nearby to the main conference rooms in the Jack Erskine Building and will be staffed by qualified professionals. The service will be available from 8:30am to 6pm each day. Code Club Aoteaora We're excited to have partnered with Digital Future Aotearoa / Code Club to provide an engaging and educational programme for all children aged 6 and up. More information about the programme will be released to the conference wiki in due course. The programme will be run on-campus and might involve one or two offsite trips which we'll announce beforehand. It is run by staff and volunteers from Digital Future Aotearoa with support from LCA volunteers. Morning and afternoon tea will be available, and parents are expected to pick up their children during lunch hours. The programme will run from 8:30am to at least 5pm (we're working on the details) on all five days of the conference. -- Steven Sykes Chair, LCA 2019 Twitter: @linuxconfau Web: linux.conf.au/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We'd like to provide an update on the linux.conf.au 2021 Call for Bids. We've currently received one bid - however because we want to ensure a strong pipeline of events, we've decided to extend the Call for Bids until the end of December 2018. So if you've thought "gosh, I've just missed out" or "woops, we missed the deadline", then you have a little more time! As always the Council is very happy to discuss what's involved, the commitment, and the transferable skills that you will gain from running linux.conf.au.
