The main purpose of these roles is to provide technical advice and expertise to maintain the integrity and quality of the operating environment. The Technical Specialist is responsible for ensuring the stability of the Unix and Linux environments.<BR><BR><B>Main responsibilities are:</B> 
<UL>
<LI>To deliver effective technology guidance and implementation for the UNIX/Linux environment and maintain high levels of UNIX/Linux availability for all related systems and applications 
<LI>To provide support to the global UNIX/Linux environment, out of hours support rotated on a roster basis 
<LI>This is a proactive role, where the position will actively seek alternate solutions to current business issues; will constantly seek to improve the UNIX/Linux environment; will monitor industry trends and movements to feed back to the group 
<LI>Implement change onto systems.
<LI>Involvement in periodic system tests – eg DR capability tests 
<LI>Continue the development of expertise in the Unix/Linux arena</LI></UL><B>Skills and experience</B><BR>
<UL>
<LI>Minimum 5 years experience implementing and managing large scale Solaris UNIX and/or Linux deployments 
<LI>Experience in both Redhat Linux and Solaris UNIX 
<LI>Experience managing Linux/Solaris server based projects, such as server capacity planning, new Linux/Solaris infrastructure deployments, improve Linux/Solaris server performance and availability, implement new server monitoring and tuning technologies and complex troubleshooting and problem resolution of major server issues 
<LI>Experience with building and maintaining solutions utilizing Veritas Cluster Server 
<LI>Experience with building and maintaining solutions utilizing Veritas Volume Manager 
<LI>Strong communication skills are required. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with management and fellow colleagues.</LI></UL>
