We are a small legal practice who use linux to run all our server functions.
These include file-serving using samba, email, apc, procm, squid and web browsing apache. In addition we have gateway services a linux based vpn and external webservers. These servers are linked and checked with a backup of each using Heartbeat and monitored by BigBrother.
Current version used by most servers:
Linux 2.6.14 #2 Sun Jan 1 11:29:23 EST 2006 i686 GNU/Linux
The work entails monitoring maintaining and developing these servers, including hardware upgrades when necessary, our network generally including client machines (approx 30 mostly Win XP some still Win98), printers fax machines and copier.
In addition there is development work in php, mysql and several databases we maintain some for client access over the web. There is a manual showing current development and systems.
The job would suit two students working as a team enrolled in IT degree course at University who can job share. Work is recorded and allocated using dot project. There is probably an average of a shared 30 hours work per week or more as demand justifies, the pay rate is award rates but there are prospects for advancement.
