Senior sysadmin, Full Time

You will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of Travelocity's production and development systems that support developers, Internet users, and users of internal applications. Supporting Travelocity and Get There's on-line operations including applications such as Vignette Story Server, Tomcat, Apache, Netscape Enterprise Web Server, BEA Weblogic, Jboss, and Solstice Disk Suite. This support will also entail the support of operating systems such as IRIX, AIX, Solaris, and Linux. You will be working with a team to insure that all development staff has the proper access to equipment and documentation to properly perform their job duties. It is also the responsibility of this team to work closely with vendors and service providers to insure that upgrades and licensing are kept current.


ACCOUNTABILITIES/DUTIES
Responds to user trouble reports. Resolves problems and/or reports to vendors as needed. Manages problem to resolution. 
Responds to customers needs by through direct communications (face-to-face, email and phone). Able to resolve problems in a professional manner when dealing with internal and external clients. 
Able to recognize and set priorities of tasks for self and others. 
Initiate, defines and manages projects relating to UNIX administration, security and development tools. Creating the design, planning of follow-through and implementing the project to a specific project plan and completion date. 
Perform installations and upgrades hardware and software. 
Perform troubleshooting duties and have a full end-to-end understanding of all environments supported. 
Recommend hardware and software upgrades, as well as architecture changes, in order to improve the sites supported. 
Work with various internal teams, such as architecture, site quality, and developer services, to drive the implementations of their solutions. 
Grow to have a complete understanding of the various supported sites so as to be a point of knowledge for other teams and to document the supported sites as needed. 
Have a high level understanding of load balancing, network, and network acceleration device concepts, and be fully proficient at troubleshooting those devices from an application standpoint. 
Other duties as assigned. 
QUALIFICATIONS
·  Must be detail oriented; possess exceptional organizational skills and a hard working work ethic. 
·  Position requires excellent analytical problem solving skills. 
·  Must be able to work independently and as a project manager. 
·  Possess time-management skills, including ability to prioritize multiple tasks for project teams to meet deadlines. 
·  Must be able to own major projects. Creating project plans, assigning resources, determining justification and be responsible for their completion.

ACADEMIC:
BS in Computer Science and Engineering desired (but not required) 
Two years related technical degree and 5+ years related experience

GENERAL SKILLS: 
Written communication skills (with a focus on writing of a more technical nature) 
Strong verbal communication skills Detail oriented Ability to manage projects WORK EXPERIENCE 5+ years prior systems administration experience Travel industry desired (but not required)
