I am working in Regional SA and my aim is to get new digital projects out into the regions to increase exposure and experience around the tech industry and skills. As a volunteer (and also able to put some paid work time) I am helping with a new festival in my region called FLAME (fire, lights, music, arts, entertainment) that will be held every two years. I've been able to use my networks to bring some new digital artists to the area, and to organise a panel to speak. Getting tech onto the agenda has been really welcome, and I'm going to be able to attract a lot of really great people and conversations on how we get more done in small towns. 
This project is using open source technology, and being open about the research and learnings. We want regional communities to be inspired by art, to create new ways that performers can create reach, and encourage regional leaders to think differently and collaboratively about technology in people's lives. 
The FLAME Festival will be held on May 27-29 - the Big Sand Band video launch and the community panel will be held on May 28.
Estimated cost breakdown of the project: This application is to enhance Sally Coleman's participation in the festival and to pay her time to create community artifacts that others can share. We can have Sally appear remotely - but to be able to bring her to the town will really create a special experience - especially for young people.

Project team details: Lyndsey Jackson is the lead volunteer and agitator trying to bring something cool to her small town, and to build ideas that can be shared by others. Lyndsey has been working with open source technologies for over 15 years, and involved in many communities such as drupal, govhack, open ag. Lyndsey has previously been the Chair of EFA and is committed to digital rights. I've also spoken at linux conf twice :)
Sally Coleman is an artist and music producer. Her vision for bringing art and technology and touring to regional Australia is incredibly exciting. Sally is trying to create something special in an open and collaborative way. 
Sally is working with a team from Flinders University that are providing her with the tech to make this happen - they are backing her idea and helping to showcase in Adelaide.
The FLAME Festival is being run by the Copper Coast Council and a large group of volunteers. The event organisers have a small budget and are looking to create an event that will be held ongoing every two years. For ease it will be proposed that funds will be auspiced through Council and then Linux Australia will benefit from their promotion and social media also.

And, I recognise it is out of the box. In addition to getting much needed funds to bring this element to the community, I really want to demonstrate to regional towns that there is a large tech community or organisations and people that are willing and able to help with their aspirations.
