Project name: Development of an auto pilot API for Gravity Challenge 2019
Aim of the project: The aim of our project is to contribute to dronecode.org for further development of an auto pilot API for Gravity Challenge 2019 and to form a team to present our contribution as an innovative solution in Travel & Tourism industry in a hackathon challenge in Australia. The tourism and leisure industries currently use high resolution imagery and Geographic Information System (GIS) data to evaluate and assess attractions such as resorts, extreme sports arenas and provide tourists accurate up-to-date detailed mapping of their touristic destinations. we are targeting to present our work within 12 weeks hackathon in the gravity challenge conference in Adelaide (https://gravitychallenge.space ). We use PX4 which is an an open source flight control software for drones and other unmanned vehicles. PX4 provides a flexible set of tools for drone developers to share technologies to create tailored solutions for drone applications and it's part of the kitDronecode project which is a nonprofit hosted under the Linux Foundation, dedicated to fostering open-source components and their communities.
Estimated cost breakdown of the project: Major costs items includes but not limited to the following:
-Cost of Hardware: Drone, Battery hardware debug tools and Camera
-Amazon Cloud storage and EC2 Instance for hosting the solution
-Project home page, Web Design hosting and marketing of the solution and capturing the demo for the conference and all other R&D (labour costs).
We expect to spend approximately AUD $1850 on hardware, and AUD $1250 on Amazon Cloud and around $1850 on all other items which is the minimum. These estimates are based on discussions with several teams operating in this area. We are requesting funding from Linux Australia to partially cover the costs for $3000 and the rest (including any additional ongoing costs) will find a way to cover it from the other sources.
