Yifei has expressed interest in giving a talk but I'm not sure he will be ready by the start of next month. One thing we have discussed is having a meeting about PC hardware. There have been some interesting developments in that regard in recent times, I could give a talk about some of the new stuff, some things I've learned while working in corporate IT, and some interesting research I've been reading and the disturbing conclusion it led me to. These are quite different topics so this won't be a formal lecture, more of me giving brief talks about the topics in question and then opening it for informal discussion where input from all members is welcome. Who's interested in a meeting about PC hardware on the 1st of April? -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/ From russell at coker.com.au Tue Mar 21 23:49:17 2023 From: russell at coker.com.au (Russell Coker) Date: Tue, 21 Mar 2023 23:49:17 +1100 Subject: [Flounder] mobile phone development Message-ID: <3235405.5fSG56mABF@cupcakke> Who's interested in doing serious development of free software phones? I've decided that my Huawei Nova9 without Google Play is a bit crap overall and trying to get an open Android build installed on it is too much pain. The Librem5 (which I bought at great expense) doesn't have the battery life needed so I'm thinking of making a PinePhone a development platform that I can use daily (like running Debian/Testing on my laptop). https://wiki.mobian-project.org/doku.php?id=pinephone "Phone takes a long time to wake up when receiving a call", well I guess people will just have to SMS or IM me! ;) -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/ From NZLUG at etelligence.info Wed Mar 22 07:33:34 2023 From: NZLUG at etelligence.info (DL Neil) Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2023 09:33:34 +1300 Subject: [Flounder] meetings In-Reply-To: <21894976.EfDdHjke4D@cupcakke> References: <21894976.EfDdHjke4D@cupcakke> Message-ID: <29c7ae7a-4ee8-98fe-fde2-9ffd571d1ef1@etelligence.info> On 22/03/2023 01.39, Russell Coker via Flounder wrote: > Who's interested in a meeting about PC hardware on the 1st of April? +1 From russell at coker.com.au Sat Mar 25 15:31:09 2023 From: russell at coker.com.au (Russell Coker) Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2023 15:31:09 +1100 Subject: [Flounder] Flounder April 1st 2023 meeting Message-ID: <4480477.LvFx2qVVIh@xev> https://flounder.linux.org.au/events/flounder-apr-2023-pc-hardware/ April event, PC hardware, a mini lecture about lessons learned from corporate IT work and a general discussion about where hardware is at. Also lots of general random discussion about free software stuff. Meeting will be at http://b.coker.com.au. No need to register just click on the link on the day. Meeting officially opens at 1PM Melbourne time (02:00UTC). We had a hiatus for a while, and maybe April 1st isn't the best day to resume, but I think it's better to be sooner than later. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/
