See you then! =dn From NZOSS at etelligence.info Sat Sep 17 07:30:29 2022 From: NZOSS at etelligence.info (DL Neil) Date: Sat, 17 Sep 2022 09:30:29 +1200 Subject: [Flounder] Flounder Hack Day - *today* 1PM Melbourne time, 03:00 UTC In-Reply-To: <3835813.tdWV9SEqCh@xev> References: <3835813.tdWV9SEqCh@xev> Message-ID: <3b37202c-5904-f5ec-67b0-17e037e48478@etelligence.info> (I'm not sure if I've mentioned this project before) Have a little HP Elite x2 G1?2 both as a portable and as a tablet (the "x2" bit). The device comes with MS-Win10 and all parts appear to work happily. Would like to convert it to Linux. It is my first foray into touch-screens. Am 'test-driving' various distros (actually Window/Desktop Managers). Most deliver portable-PC functionality, but the challenge is to find one which will drive it in tablet-mode. A fellow member from the Auckland LUG has shown me his success - so it has been done, but distro-foibles/personal-preferences rear-up... H/w specs are more than sufficient. User specs are simple and consuming-mode only*: web-browser, email, eBook and PDF-reading, and thus file-manager/nav. Web includes videos, eg YouTube, and video-calls, eg our own BBB. Email-client should be Thunderbird (from which arises an issue, possibly-related to GUI-choice). The required-'gestures' include rapid zoom, swipe-scrolling, and automatic display re-orientation. * cf 'creative' tools such as an IDE or L/O-Office. That said, have been thinking that Writer will be needed, if only to be able to read incoming email-attachments that are not .PDF! Started looking at various ideas from the Purim, Android-replacement, etc, topics. Some PCs supported (maybe), but not this one. So, moved to Linux-proper. That said, the only reason for looking at current distros is to catch a relatively-recent release with gestures-plumbing built-in. Double-UEFI-booting has been achieved, and have downloaded and installed various 'likely-candidates': - Linux Mint 19 + Mate, - Linux Mint 20 + Cinnamon, - Fedora 36 Workstation + Gnome3. Next-up is Ubuntu 20. Thereafter will look for recommendations to try KDE Plasma, or any other compelling recommendation... -- Regards =dn From russell at coker.com.au Mon Sep 26 12:05:23 2022 From: russell at coker.com.au (Russell Coker) Date: Mon, 26 Sep 2022 12:05:23 +1000 Subject: [Flounder] next meeting Message-ID: <7122299.iIbC2pHGDl@xev> Do we have any volunteers to present for the next meeting? A couple of things I've been thinking of doing are: 1) Hands-on tutorial on DKIM and DMARC. 2) Playing with HURD (I'm not a HURD expert). -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/ From russell at coker.com.au Wed Sep 28 02:46:29 2022 From: russell at coker.com.au (Russell Coker) Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2022 02:46:29 +1000 Subject: [Flounder] Flounder Oct meeting - DKIM etc Message-ID: <5833925.72vocr9iq0@xev> https://flounder.linux.org.au/events/flounder-oct-2022-dkim/ Above is the URL for the October Flounder meeting. DKIM and DMARC hands-on tutorial. Meeting will be at http://b.coker.com.au. No need to register just click on the link on the day. Meeting will start with providing a VM running Postfix and BIND and will cover setting up and testing DKIM, SPF, and DMARC. Meeting officially opens at 1PM Melbourne time (03:00UTC). New Zealand has started daylight savings, but I don't think we need to change the time for the meeting, it will still end by about 7PM NZ time which is not particularly late. Daylight savings in Australia starts just after this meeting, so unless anyone has good reasons to do otherwise the November meeting will start an hour earlier in UTC. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/ From russell at coker.com.au Wed Sep 28 02:50:13 2022 From: russell at coker.com.au (Russell Coker) Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2022 02:50:13 +1000 Subject: [Flounder] Flounder Oct meeting - DKIM etc In-Reply-To: <5833925.72vocr9iq0@xev> References: <5833925.72vocr9iq0@xev> Message-ID: <5627686.PIDvDuAF1L@xev> The meeting is on the 1st of October, this Saturday.
