[Aslug] Mercury lamp disposal?

I just spoke to the Council's waste management person, he says that
there is no facility in Alice Springs at which a mercury lamp could be
disposed of responsibly.
He mentioned things like sending it interstate to specialist waste
companies.
Bummer.

 Hi everyone,
 I have just replaced the lamp in my projector, and I want to know
where to dispose of it responsibly in Alice Springs (for free). If
anyone knows, I would greatly appreciate the information. I won't be
at a LUG meet next week, I have to go to Melbourne and I missed the
last one because it was so god-awful cold, but I am still around!!!
