Usually, well before this point of the year, we have a good indication of teams who are working on bidding. Sadly we haven't heard of any teams interested in leading a linux.conf.au. The bid deadline is still open so perhaps there are some people working hard in the background on getting a proposal to the council. However, at this point, we may be heading towards a year where we have no viable option or location for a linux.conf.au. If this is something you would like to help fix, please let us know if you're interested in running a linux.conf.au :-) Cheers, Josh On 03/07/15 14:36, Tony Breeds wrote: > Hi there, > > Plans are coming along really well for linux.conf.au 2016 in Geelong. > We're very much looking forward to seeing you all there, but in the > meantime it's time to start thinking about plans for 2018[0]. > > I realise we're a bit behind schedule on the formal call for bids, so > here is the revised timeline > > * July - Formal Bids are requested to host linux.conf.au 2018 > (this email) > - Council works with Bid Teams to help them prepare their > bids, answering questions and providing guidance > * August 14 - Submission of formal bids closes > - Council clarifies any questions regarding the bids and > reviews them > * September - Council conducts Site Inspections with shortlisted Bid > Teams > * November - Council decides on the winning city and informs the Bid > Teams > * January - The winning bid is announced at linux.conf.au 2016 > > > If you have ever sat in the back of a LUG meeting or an LCA talk and had > an informal chat to someone about running an LCA now is the time to put > that idea into action. We have received expressions of interest from a 2 parties. We will work with them to flesh out a bid over the next month. Assuming we end up with 2 complete bids they will be published here for comment. If this process does NOT result in a successful bid we'll inform the community and announce the next steps.
